Bio:

Near, real name Nate River, is the younger of the two and the more level-headed, calmly assessing the situation while Mello is more emotional and quick to act.

Much like L, Near uses the Old English "N" to represent himself, though he only briefly calls himself by the initial since Light discovers his actual alias.

Near shares several behavioral similarities with L. He is usually seen hunched over than sitting, much like L crouches.

He also various toys which he uses in his theories, vaguely recalling L's obsession with sweets. Personality-wise, Near is somewhat more cold.

He initially shows no emotions towards L's death, saying L is a loser in the game of tracking down Kira; however, he later reveals that both he and Mello have great respect for L and want to prove themselves by succeeding him.

He is fairly blunt, and often insults people who support Kira or otherwise stand in his way, although usually not to their faces.

Compared to L, Near is somewhat more decisive, as he tends to judge on little evidence and pursues hypothetical hunches.

This is demonstrated when he claims that Light is definitely Kira based on little information. Often using the terms 'winning' and 'losing', he seems to consider the investigation as one of his games.

Though he starts with no leads or clues, Near successfully identifies the events unfolding during the capture of Higuchi, and points out the existence of the Death Note to President Hoope.

With authority from Hoope, the SPK (Secret Provision for Kira) is established to investigate Kira. The SPK consists of selected agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency, as well as Near.

After Light retrieves the Death Note stolen by Mello, Mello informs Near of the fake rules Ryuk wrote in it, leading near to suspect that the new L is Kira.

From various information he gains from Mello and Aizawa, Near deduces that Light is the new L. He also deduces that Mikami is acting as Light's proxy.

In their final confrontation, Near uses Kira's own plan to eliminate all his adversaries against him by switching Mikami's Death Note with a fake. Since Mikami naturally excludes Light from his victims, Light is exposed as Kira.

Near attributes his success not only to Mikami's miscalculation in killing Takada, but also to Mello, whose kidnapping of Takada was they key to his victory.

He claims that neither of them could surpass L alone, but together (intentionally or not) have done so.

Appearance:

Near is quite small, being only about 5"1 in height and weighting no more than 180 pounds.

Near appears very young despite his age. He has pallid skin, perhaps due to his lack of sunlight.

He has delicate, white curls which he can be seen twirling, particularly when in thought and charcoal grey eyes.

He tends to wear white; over-sized button up shirts and loose-fitting trousers.

Bio:
Not much is known about L. Mostly known is that he was raised in an Orphanage called “Wammy House” when his parents died. The person who found him was Watari, whom L cares for deeply.
He worked on cases for a long time, and one of the only people he worked with, Naomi Misora, was killed during the Kira case. She was very helpful to him during the Los Angeles Beyond Birthday Murder Cases, where she was his eyes, ears and hands.
L started on the Kira case when it caught his interest. He wanted to know how this guy was killing the people without even needing to be at the scene of the crime. This is when he decided to get the Japanese Police and FBI involved. In the end, the FBI decided to get out after 12 of their agents died by the hands of Kira. L easily solved where Kira was located. It was too obvious for the young detective. He then went on to solving the case, locking people up on suspicion and almost getting some of them killed.

L uses the “Old London” font for his L when he’s broadcasting his messages to Kira, obviously to keep his identity a secret.

There are only a few people who L has ever cared for or whom he does care for now.
Some of them include Near, Mello, Matt and Watari. He grew fond of Light in the time that they were handcuffed together, but they never became so close so that he would release Light of his suspicion.

L eats an unusual amount of cakes and always sits in a hunched position. These raise his thinking power by 40%, so that’s why he does it. He is an insomniac, so he never sleeps. Instead, he works on cases that he finds.

L is very intelligent, so he knows many different languages and can work things out easier than any of the Police Forces around the world. He also bites his thumb a lot, or messes around with his lips with it.

Appearance:
Raven black hair, bags under his eyes, never wears anything else except from his blue jeans and white shirts. His skin is too pale for his own good, which shows he obviously doesn’t get out in the sun much.

Personality: Super bubbly and fun, loves desserts almost as much as L. She is a lot smarter than she looks and wants to be a detective.
